Recently our 2002 Super D developed a disturbing habit. Without touching the mixture control, it starts to move out (lean) by itself. Of course this is dangerous and we've grounded the airplane until a mechanic can look at the problem. Seems to have something to do with the way the cable sheathing is anchored. Anyone have similar problems?

I think you have the ratcheting type control that has a spring that catches on notches on the shaft. As you push and pull it you should hear and feel the little spring clicking by the notches, could be the little spring is gone.
Or you you may have the type that has a button on the end that you push to release so it can be moved.
Either way it needs to be replaced.
