spar crack 14-19-3

Looking for some info regarding a 14-19-3 I am looking to purchase.
There is a crack in the spar when looking at the butt.
When inspection wire is inserted, the crack does not go past the first bolt.
Seller tells me this is not yet a problem and says he has talked to the people at this club in regards to this.

Is this a problem?

Any info would be appreciated.

Any crack any where in any wood structure is a problem. Dry rot is an even worse problem. I would proceed very carefully and be aware that wings are hard to find and expensive to repair. A wood wing Bellanca project without wings is pretty much worthless.
