Nose gear doors

I've got a 78 Super Viking that's having a problem bending one of the aft corners on the outer nose gear door. My A&P found a couple of loose fitting bolts and tried replacing them but the problem continues. The gear operates normally but the bending is driving us nuts. Anyone have this problem and if so, how did you solve it.
Also, ever since I've owned the plane (11 years) I have to be extremely careful keeping the weight off the nose gear on landing or it will dart toward the sides of the runway. I've been told that this is common but thought I'd ask if that is so or is just a myth. Thanks in advance for any help.

I had the same problem in my 1978 last fall. You will notice that the cover is wobbly when you try to move it. It should have a sold feel.
Problem is simple to solve. The bushings in the mechanism need to be changed.

Call me about the problem of nosing to the left on landing. I just had it happen in September in Albuquerque, and then twice the other day. Let's talk about it to see if we can determine a common problem. 480-563-6479.

Carl,

Thanks for the reply. I got to talking to my A&P the other day about the problem on landing. He told me, and he does quite a bit of work on Super Vikings, that they all do the same thing. So, I guess the only fix is to keep the weight off the nose gear as long as possible on landing. Maybe someone else has some different thoughts. Sure can be exciting though :( .

Regards,
Bill

Bellance pilots understand the P factor problem on landing and we all learn to put in right rudder to balance that, but I have about 100 landings in the VIking and only three, two the last time I flew last week, exhibited this exciting tendency. My plane is in the shop right now for the problem.
I talked to a 30 year Viking A&D and he says there are two possible problems (I may not be saying these just right but these are my notes)-
Failure to separate the two haves of the collar on the nose strut that serves as a shimmy dampener with a washer or two. Otherwise the two havles can stick
Lubrication of the collar. If it's too dry, it can stick

PS-Ron Hass-Thank you for calling but you did not leave a number. Would like to talk to you about problem to help my repair shop. Please leave number when you call again. Toll free number is 888-839-4032.
