I am redoing the main gear on my Cruisemaster. I purchased a new upper piston from Bellanca factory. Their drawing specifies clevis pin connecting upper and lower pistons 2 sizes under the diameter of holes in pistons. It also appears to be too long. When I disassembled my gear legs, one had pin of same size as holes, other had factory spec. pin. There is good amount of slop and it appears that in was rubbing on the wall of the gear leg. Does anyone know what would be the right pin? In order to prevent pin from rubbing against the leg, I probably would not be able to fit right washer under the cotter pin.(thin washer and elogate hole)
I also purchased new felt seals from Bellanca, my airplane had one rubber wiper seal and one seal was missing. Are wiper seal better at keeping dirt from inside of the gear leg or is felt better at keeping the leg lubed to prevent corosion of the chromed part?
Also do you pack the top area of the gear leg around taxi spring with grease or do you rely on hydraulic fluid leakage past the piston seal to keep things lubed?
What is the right lenght of taxi spring? I have one that looks new and is 6", the other rusty and bowed out and about 0.5" shorter.
Bill Russel specifies 6.5" on his website for new. I ordered couple from Bellanca and did not receive them yet.
Any help would be greatly appretiated.
