Ignition Switch Woes

I went out for a quick flight yesterday and had no mag drop on the right mag, buzzed around the bay a bit and landed, did a mag check and same thing, no drop.
Separately, the key slot for my mag switch is also worn, which allows the key to jiggle out when the mags are on.
So, it seems like the prudent solution is to replace the mag switch.
I have looked on Spruce and others, but the only mag switch I can find for a certified bird has a "Start" Position which I don't need. The switch I currently have only has 3 wires, left, right, and ground. I have been unable to find a switch with only three connections.
Should I just install the switch with a "Start" position and not use the "start" function?

Larry,
I tried switching the wire leads to see if it was a switch or wire issue and got the same failure on the other may. The key comes out of the mag switch when on though, so the switch has to be replaced anyhow.
I found an ACS switch for $140. Don't really feel like spending 400 bucks on a new bendix

Fixed! Turns out is was the wiring after all. We went to check the wiring before replacing the switch and it pulled right apart at an old soldered splice. I went ahead and replaced both mag leads and the switch ground and it's all good as new!
Someone is going to have to teach me the secret to getting installing shielded wire without tearing the grounding sleeve up!

To do the shield trick. Compress the wire between your hands about 2 inches. the shield will bunch up as it is compressed. You then take a small scratch awl and make an opening in the shield without doing any damage to it. Now the wire can be pulled through the opening. This separates the shield and the wire and everything is still in one piece. You can then do what you need like knife connects, solder, splice etc. I've used a couple ACS ignition switches and they are a good quality. I like them. Lynn

AHA!
That's the secret!
I was trying to slice the shielding length wise and then twist. Not the most effective.
Thanks Lynn!

I am finally installing the Plane Power Alternator this week as the generator keeps throwing belts (Bearings most likely). Planning on installing a 70 amp breaker for the alternator to get full power. Anything to look out for?

I've had couple issues with the Plane Power and both turned out to be grounds. One was faulty and the other missing (C-182). If my gen ever says times up, I would go for the Plane Power it is a nice unit and their support is very good. Lynn the Crate
