HOT MAG!!!!

Good habits pay off......I was spinning the prop through a few times after a thorough preheat when suddenly........varoom!!!!!.
engine ran for about 2seconds.
Checked my switches were off, mixture lean, throttle closed. when pulling it through i'm always ready for this to happen, but it never had.....I come to find out that the left mag was hot. I had cleaned my oil screen and may have knocked the P lead loose when removing the Screen and vernitherm housing........A couple of weeks ago my A&P's mechanic broke his hand because of this. He's lucky thats all that happened............

All i got was a wet spot in my Jeans.

Anybody have similar stories???????

Hello Intis:

I still owe you an email reply & will get to it Monday. Anyway, I never experienced a hot prop, but like you, learned very early on to never get in the way of one. We are very lucky to have had those mentors.

had a champ w/c65,pulling thru after maintainace, engine started and ran, i have always kept the palm of my hand on the spinner while pulling thru so i was able to back away , have found this to be the safest way for myself, ps by the wayu the mag switch was in off position, checked switch showed no glitches, only time this happened in over 200 hrs. steve thompson
