headset type

Is there any type of headsets that help with the noise from these loud planes? I only have moderately priced headsets and don't really know anyone with a pricier noise-cancelling set to try out. With mine on, I can barely hear through it over the cabin noise. Also, are there any recommendations on soundproofing that might help any? Thanks.

I have a Lightspeed Zulu and a Lightspeed XL30 and I've been happy with both in the Bellanca. It's still not the quietest thing in the world, but none of the other pilots at the airport have anything noticeably quieter (although I haven't had the chance to borrow a set of Bose A20s yet). I'm just tall enough with just short enough legs that the XL30 is a bit annoying because the headset just hits the top of the cabin when I have the seat far enough forward I can reach the rudder pedals, but I'm really happy with the Zulus (minus the price...).

I have a set of the Zulus as well and absolutely love them. I use them in my Twin Bonanza, which is very loud, and the Zulu headsets really quiet things down. I miss them dearly when I am traveling in the Twin Bonanza with my wife because she gets them when she's in the airplane.

Thanks guys. I was hoping those would help. I was just apprehensive to pay a lot for some headsets that didn't do the trick.

I really like the Lighspeed XL series - the big goofy looking ear cushions are luxurious, but I dont think they're available anymore, maybe on eBay.
I also have some older David Clark H13, Marvin Golden marked house brand ANRs and house brand ANR from Tinas Pilot Shop (called V1-ANR). All of them work very nicely in my -3, the trick is to find what's comfortable and makes a good seal around your ear.
