Cruisair

The shortest runway I have had it on was 2500 ft with no problem and that was before the top overhaul.

Yes, and not even jack points for the wings. This annual, instead of the 2x4s under the front spar trick, we used an engine hoist. Worked pretty well.

And although our beloved birds will never make the Long Props, Big Rocks videos, folks have gotten these aircraft in and out of some intriguing places employing the half-fuel-and-just-you principle. For the 'Master folks adding "flap deployed to match full aileron deflection" helps a little. Flying by the book, we're not supposed to use flaps for takeoff the way you Cruisair folks can. Some of the biplane guys on hot days at Blakesburg raise one main as early as they can on the takeoff roll to reduce friction but that's not something I've been tempted to try. I'm generally a chicken sh*t when it comes to such things in Triple Tails, though I have employed an array of tricks in my Luscombe. You have to. Luscombes are not short field airplanes the way Champs and Cubs are.

If you're accustomed to short fields, the Cruisair will handle them no problem. I used to fly routinely out of a 2000' grass field. Now, on pavement, I can be down and stopped in about 1000', but have to go to one mag on rollout so that I'm not fighting the prop as much, with my regular idle set around 700rpm. My current Cruisair is very light, but the one I would routinely fly out of the 2000' field was 200 lbs. heavier.

Whimps,all..........Get off the topic. If you can't land your Cruisair at max gross in 1500'....go back to flying school. I did it all the time at my Dad's ranch strip that was 1600' end to end...with a 60' foot hill at one end....went down 60' and ended with a 30' set of power lines. Did it at night, too. I'll show you how! Dan

Oy vey...Dan's in his Dean Wormer mood again

Yes, yes, I know, Dan...when you were a lad you took off from 800 foot rough turf strips at 4000 feet field elevation, uphill and over-gross, on 90 degree days. Sounds like my Dad's depression era privation tales that everything I said would trigger...including, "Could you please pass the salt."

Just kidding with ya, of course. When we meet up at Columbia I'd be honored if you'd share some of your wisdom with me.
