I am planning on flying down to the Bellanca fly in from Idaho in June.
Any tips for a fly-in newbie?

It will be my father and I, and we are both experienced campers, but this will be my first long fly in.

Special items I need to bring?
Weather contingency plan?
Tips and Tricks?

Andy, do you have a route planned yet? Last year 3 of us gaggled down starting from SEA area, stopping near EUG to gather me up, and then flew on down to O22 talking to each other as we went. Dan Cullman in his 14-19-2 and Brian Barrett in his 14-19-3 and me in my Cruisair. Only gottcha I would warn about is one that the local folks around Redding told me...when passing Mt Shasta on the west side , do not go between the mountain, and the 6358ft msl cinder cone (Black Butte) west of it but stay further west of the cinder cone (west of the freeway). Guess you sometimes get squirrelly air between the two.

I am going to make another post to see if folks want to gaggle down again.

I had heard that it would be a tad warm and will plan accordingly.
I was planning on summertime camping gear and plenty of sunscreen.

I replied to your other thread regarding gaggling, definitely interested :)

Is it possible to pick up basic supplies and such once on the ground?
-Adam

Adam, there are two Larry's on this Forum. Larry Rau (Blimpy) is near Santa Rosa, CA. I am near Eugene. As far as supplies go, there is not too much at O22. We have a Cabellas (sp?) about 10 N of Creswell, and I can give you a ride up there if you want. We also have an airport car at Creswell.

Larry, even with your amazingly accurate description of the heat, you're making me bummed we're missing this year :).

Campgrounds have shade trees, and all cools down at night. I camped once a few years ago (not a big outdoors fan) and it was actually cold in the middle of the night. Your results may vary depending on the year. The fun and camaraderie outweigh any temperature. We are also rebuilding the big 20 x 20 shade tent on the flight line and it gets pretty comfortable under it.

Hope to see all of you there - Can't Wait!

Quick question,
I will be fairly close to gross with myself, my father, and basic gear in my cruisair.
I only live a couple hours away from columbia to begin with, but will be flying down from Idaho for the fly in. Is it possible to drop off a few things (i.e. Tent and sleeping bags) at the airport prior to the fly in?
Thanks!
-Adam

Call Bald Eagle Aviation (FBO) 209-533-4616. They have been pretty good about storing stuff for a few days. Having said that, we were missing a few items shipped from vendors last year. If you mark it as personal property, I think it should survive the curious.
