Are Whelan Strobes 2X better $$$ than Aeroflash?

Here's the deal- I have to run new lighting wire in my wings. I might as well install the wingtip strobes while I'm at it.

Why are Whelan Strobes about $700 for the kit and Aeroflash about $300 :?:

To say this will be a hard task is an understatement. I dare say unless you're Plywood Wonder is in a zillion pieces like mine with stripped wings, it can't be done. The old wire is STAPLED into place and routed through some tiny holes up and down up and down and up and down (ad nauseum).

I've started pulling staples and making access cuts where the AI said I should all in accordance with 43.13. With a loooong screwdriver to pry the staples loose and a looong magnet to chase them down afterwards, things are actually proceeding rather smoothe 8)

My seats should be ready next week :!:

I sent my Aeroflash unit back for repair weeks ago and called these people to check on it's status. They asked if I sent it UPS or US Mail. It was sent US Mail and they said they would call me. Its been threee days and no call. So there is a heads up on Aeroflash service. It sucks and I'm calling them again to find out where my strobe is and why it isn't fixed and why they never called me back and why the dame thing failed in the first place. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Double D, check this free site http://www.myplaneonline.com. Bellancas and pictures. LYNN N9818B :D

Double D, yeah thats me. Most times people just see my legs as I'm under the panel or got my head in the crate. A labor of love! LYNN N9818B

They are truly inspirational. Now- if it would just get warm enough to iron on some Poly Fiber and paint it...brrrrr.

I need to order some more vinyl from Airtex. They used alot of it up on the seats. I decided to go with Vinyl because I have some removable sheepskin seat covers I can pull and wash once in a while. It gets so durn hot down heah in the Southland in the Summer 8)

Think you'll make it to Sun N Fun this year?

Double D. Sun & Fun not in the picture this year. I will be at Oshkosh and the east coast flyin at Pottstown. Lord willin and the creek don't rise. LYNN N9818B 8)

I am trying to find copies of the 337 for Whelan strobs on a 14-13-2. I am installing wing tip strobs using one box in fusaloge. My IA say's it would be real helpfull if it has already been done. It has to be the same type. If anyone has some please email me at cruiseair74372@charter.net. Or call me at 940-368-7973 Thanks Randy smith

See if you can contact your FAA engineering office directly and talk to someone about field approval for the Whelens. I've done this at my AI's suggestion for an electric fuel pump installation. They came back and said if the AI was willing to sign it off, they would as well. I now have them on speed dial on my cell phone. Nice people! :D

Back to the Whelens. I believe Harvey Leydecker in McCalla, AL installed them in his 14-13 N44FP. If you contact me via e-mail, I can put you in touch with him.

I just finished installing wing tip strobs on my 14-13-2. I ran the wire in front of the rear spar thru the gear well and behind the tank between the tank and spar. There is a half inch gap back there if the tanks are installed like the factory did. There is a rubber piece in an L shape that holds the tank off the spar. A stick of long Brasing wire works well as a needle.

That sure would solve the problem of cutting out circles from the skin.
Did you have several tiny openings between ribs to thread it through? That's where I was stopped cold- they weren't in a straight line.
What about humping over the aileron brackets? How'd that go?

I went on the Front of the rear spar . Mine had I one inch hole on one rib the next had 3/8 " hole the next 1" and so on down the line. I tied a string to my brazing wire and then taped my wire to the string. I stapled the wire to the spar through the inspection hole. Ran behind the tank and came out at the spar bracket. I built a mount on the 2 cross braces under the rear floor board and mounted the box. good luck.
