Aero Flash Strobes for Christmas

Gee- Margaret (wife) sure is swell. She's getting me some Aero Flash wingtip strobes for my 14-13-2 for Christmas. I musta' been real good this year!
One thing though, is it going to be a pain in the buttocks to get a 337 on the installation? Anyone else go through this? :?:
 
10 hours and the AeroFlash is still working on my Cruisemaster. I would like to know how in the world you are going to wire wing tip strobes. In my Bellanca Cruisemaster the original wire is stapeled in and there is no clear shot to run new wire. Looks like tyhe phone installer put the wires in the wing! LYNN N9818B
 
He used small dia. PVC tubing and ran new wire through the trailing edge of the wing (it may have been the leading edge- I'll have to check back with him again).
He fed the new wire down the PVC first, stuffed it through the wing, and then pulled the PVC out after anchoring it at the wingtip. He wishes he'd left the PVC in there as conduit though. If it's not too heavy, I believe I will.
I guess the prudent thing would be to buy a piece of PVC and try it BEFORE she buys the strobes. Hmmmm........... :idea:
 
Dave, I have done extensive rewiring the old aluminum wire in my Cruisemaster and if there is one thing Bellanca screwed up it's the wiring. You will find that running any kind of wire out the wing is a major undertaking. Just try replacing wire to the fuel sender and you will quickly learn that Bellanca didn't do their homework when it came to wire maintenance. Best check, as you said ,that you can do the strobes before your wife buys them. I gave up on the wing strobe idea after doing fuel senders! :roll: Lynn N9818B
 
Sounds like good advice to me. I'll buy a piece of PVC Thursday and try some experiments. Wanna' know how it turns out?

For some reason I didn't have any trouble with my sending unit's wire routing in my Cruisair wing (right-hand). Could the Cruisemaster wings have some differences?
 
Aeroflash failed after 14 hrs. I sent it back under warranty we will see if it's vibration or just something that failed, Lynn N9818B
 
That's one reason I'd like to locate them out on the wingtips. My feeling is they would see less shock (prop, engine, oil film on the bulb?)

I just don't know.

For some reason I slept most of Saturday. I was bitten on the foot by some sort of spider :shock: and just have been a little tired lately. I think I'll take off early from work today and work on the Cruisair. I'm off tomorrow. Weather permitting I can get a BUNCh done!

Sure hope I can get my confidence up on my interior. I can't quite figure out how to install the side panels...

Man, I'm kind of rambling aren't I?
 
Finally got a reply from Aeroflash in the mail Sat. It was a statement that the strobe has been repaired and being shipped to me. No word on what caused it to fail. It looks quite robust but my crate will put it to the ultimate vibration test! Stay tuned. LYNN N9818B :arrow:
 
Dangerous dave The headliner goes in first and is stapled on the sides then the upper side walls(stapled from underneith)then the lower sidewall is stapledalong the bottum.then the coverd pannels go the rest of the way to the floor.
 
I was about to staple the top sides in first pulling it over and stapling along the top of the bows, then cover those staples with the headliner and piping, stapling it in place on top of the curved bows. Last to go in would be the bottom panels. I may do it this way anyway because it hides all the attachment points neatly.

One problem I can foresee with doing it my way is there's no way to replace the headliner once the fuselage is covered! I may need to rethink this...
 
Aeroflash sent my repaired strobe back. I opened the box and there was the repaired power supply but the idiots didn't return the strobe. More phone calls and more BS. I was right their service sucks bigtime! LYNN N9818B :evil:
 
:?: I told Margaret to hold off on ordering anything. As far as I can tell no one PMA's strobes for the Cruisair anyway so the paperwork may be a killer.
 
Idots are sending a new unit can't find or remember the one I sent them! I installed a complete interior in my Cruisemaster. Replaced all the wood bows as they were stapled to death. I put Ensolite in instead of the asbestos fiberglass. I glued new headliner (Airtex wool) to the sides of the bows and after it dried formed the side covers over that glue joint. Turned out perfect and I didn't need to shrink a thing. I learned that the orignial interior is installed before the fuselage is covered in fabric. If your buying a strobe buy a Whelen. They are quite expensive but after the BS I ve been through, I wish I would of spent the bucks. LYNN N9818B :!:
 
Margaret has been following your "adventure" :roll: as well. I said I could do with just the two wingtip piggyback strobes and the installation kit for now and buy the power supply later as I get closer to reattaching the wings.

The wire removal is going well. So far the rather invasive surgery to the underside of the wing isn't nearly as bad as I had feared. I can get to alot of the staples through one 3-inch dia. hole and the Dremel saw I'm using makes an excellent cut allowing me to reuse the cutout as the patch making a perfect repair as per FAA 43.13. Actually I'm rather glad to get the cloth-wrapped wire out of these wodden wings. An in-flight fire would be most unpleasant... :shock:
 
Idiots sent me a new strobe and I had to redrill and remount the unit in the crate. The good thing is it works and will now face the flight test. Buy a Whelen! If your fuselage is not covered, your interior will be easy to install. Bellanca put the headliner in first and held it up with wooden cross bows all done from the outside. They then went inside and did the sides half way down to the wood frames and the rest in fabric (seat) to the floor. Kick panels were made for the front and rear sections from rug to the wood frame just above the floor about 7 " Don't you just love this forum, all these great people with great ideas for a great old plane! Got to lace up the front seat sling. It's not going very well though. It just doesn't look right to me...
 
Dave i just finished my interior.The front seats are rather strange with the automotive style springs etc. I left all that out and used 3" of stiff foam. with all new plywood backer.They are very comfy.I did it ALL in leather it took 4 large hides(from e-bay $99.00 each)and had the seats/sidewalls sewed up for$700.00 including new foam.I coverd all pannels in leather including fuel valve/hydraulic pannels lower fwd sidewall pannels. I used wool on the headliner $25.00 from airtex. Good luck , Mark
 
Boy Mark, that bird sounds beautiful! Maybe the forum could put a method to give picture attachments. A pic is worth a thousand words! Sure hope to see this plane at Oshkosh or some flyin. LYNN N9818B :idea:
