    Bellanca 14-13 Conversion

Convoluted situation, this plane is offered by "Sebastian" on FB in NJ on behalf of an unnamed owner in MT to whom he sold the plane 3 months ago .. has faired in nav lights and leading edge landing light, unconventional air intake and oil cooler, hydraulic gear, disc brakes, no adsb, no...

    Oil cooler for 1413.

Ref Pacific, I had a bad experience with an expensive Fedders Oil Cooler they supplied. They told me it was the last one extant. First, the mounting bracket broke away from the cooler body on one side. We repaired that. Then it developed a leak from the junction of the oil line to the cooler at...

    Copilot side brakes?

I saw a photo of a Cruisair or Cruisemaster with copilot brakes. I am wanting to do that same conversion on 77AY. My A&P says you can't just use a second set of Scott 4000 brakes, they have to be brakes without reservoirs. I think he is wrong. When one side brake is actuated, the other one...

    Brake Master Cylinders Cruisair Mystery

Well the problem is solved, if not the mystery. These are all pretty standard O rings but the piston assembly is not the correct Scott 4000 thats supposed to be in the plane.

    Brake Master Cylinders Cruisair Mystery

According to the parts manual, these are Scott 4000. But what's actually in my plane N86826 is a similar looking cylinder with different internals (smaller dia, top cover is a two piece aluminum affair without a filler screw, etc.) Does anyone know for sure what cyls were used in the 14-13's of...

    Brake bleeding on 14-19-3

I just loosen the screw on top of the cyl and let it bleed while topping up the mc with a syringe, then tighten it up again. Having said that I am having a lot of grief with my left MC. Parts manual says it's a Scott 4000, but when I pulled the internal piston assy and compared that the the...

    Fuel pressure mystery

Well it turns out that check valve is actually a pressure relief valve and some prior owner installed it backwards, probably in an attempt to up the fuel pressure. So in that orientation, the aux pump when operating overpowers the mechanical pump and the fuel stangnates in the mechanical pump...

    Fuel pressure mystery

While troubleshooting this fuel pressure issue, we removed the Parker check valve between the electric pump and the line to the carb. We could not blow through it. Human lung can put out 3 psi max and since I am not the athlete I used to be, I suspect I can only put out about 2 psi. Now we are...

    Fuel pressure mystery

Here we are a year later and we had an in-flight anomaly. Fuel pressure tested good at runup. Went to zero after climb out when aux fuel pump was switched off. Landed on aux pump. Found fuel leak at carb. Tightened compression nut. Flew OK. But two weeks later, same thing. Flew home on aux...

    Oil cooler for 1413.

Where are Don's photos? Any updates on the oil cooler upgrade for the 150 horse Franklin 14-13?

    Wheel covers, Petton or otherwise

I am the current owner of Petten's (175mph) Cruisair N86826 equipped with his gear fairings They seem sturdy enough, although we did experience a fatigue failure of the leg extension cable on one side so we changed out both sides and found some frayed strands on the other side as well (right at...

    Aeromatic prop wanted

I lucked into a second plane with an aeromatic F200 and a new set of Tarver (fiberglass sheathed) blades and I assume they are B geometry, 74". I still have an extra F200 hub I think it's a 6 hole though and a set of 74E blades that look very serviceable if anyone needs same. I have a NOS...

    Gear leg extension cables

Anyone have experience/reference as to how to go about replacing these cables? The upper end is buried in the wing with no obvious way to dig them out.

    Aeromatic identification

I finally found (at significant cost) the F200H manual all four pages of it! At least it explains how the adjustments are made. I also solved the problem of the spinner support. And am happy to report the prop works well ... much more thrust at takeoff, climb about the same or maybe a bit better...

    Nose bowl question

I successfully made the threaded rod that protrudes through the nose of the spinner as a combined low pitch stop and spinner support. A bit of trial and error to get the dimensions right. Stainless steel. I machined a step at the nose end and slipped a piece of hard nylon tubing over it to...
