Well, with much sadness, I must report that my 260 has been totaled out. I was departing from KORK, had a normal run-up, then departed. As usual, the plance climbed like a lost angel, but when I pulled my gear, the engine quit at about 200 feet. The authorities suspicion that the nose gear somehow snagged my mixture cable and pulled the mixture into a full lean position. Restart failed, and I was forced to slip in back onto the runway, while pumping my gear down. I got my mains down and locked, but the nose gear wasn't. I tried to keep it flying long enough to get the nose gear down, but it stalled about 5-10 feet above the ground and dropped in, bending the gear and cracking the wings. The prop was windmilling, but the engine had no power. The FAA started it fine, after it discovered the mixture cable problem. But the wings are destroyed. THe IO 470F, though came from Western skyways and had about 300-400 hours on it. Any ideas on where the plane should go, or what should be done. I miss her already, but at least my family and I walked away unscathed.
I know all of you have experienced the thrill of the climb out, but please check those mixture cables.
Keep on flying!!!!
