Starter replacement?

I have a 14-19 with a starter that is starting to just spin without kicking out the bendix. If I try it a few times, it will eventually catch and spin. I was just wondering if there was an STC for a replacement starter, or am I just going to have to see about fixing this one? Thanks.

Start simple and hose the Bendix with Silicon spray, Kroil or WD 40. You may get lucky and get some more life out of it. If no joy try Quality Aircraft Accessories and get an overhaul exchange unit. I have had real good experiance with them. Lynn the crate :)

The following is based on the assumption that your 0-435 is configured exactly as my 0-435 (1950 14-19). The bendix is not attached to the starter but is located on a shaft in an aluminum housing about 2 inches in diameter and around 4 inches long located near centerline and low on the accesory housing. It should be about the lowest thing bolted to the acc housing. It should have a drain plunger on the bottom side that will drain the oil from the housing and away from the bendix when pushed up. The drain plunger can be removed by removing 3 nuts. The bendix housing can be removed by removing 3 nuts . The shaft (about 8 inches long) can be worked out after the housing is removed. The starter interfaces the bendix through gear mechanism in the assessory housing. Mine started the "spin no engagement" problem as the weather started getting colder this winter. I bought it last spring. Suspecting thick oil as the problem(why the drain on the bendix housing??) I switched to multigrade and the problem almost went away, ---almost. FLYAR11

Thanks. I will try both suggestions. Flyarr, mine is a 1950 14-19 as well. There's not many left, especially with the O-435 still in them.
