Painting the Cruisair- after assembly???

OK folks- it's time to start painting using Poly Fiber Aerothane.

Scenario: Everything is covered with Stits. :D

Problem: How do you fabric-tape the wing-to-fuselage joints AFTER you paint the major assemblies with Aerothane? :?:

You may or may not know Aerothane doesn't wipe away with MEK- you have to SAND it off for repairs! Yikes!

All I get are visions of standing my airframe on it's nose and getting out a TALL step ladder and a loooong hose for the HVLP. :?

Help!

Maybe you can put a rubber strip on the wing joint like the Super Viking has. I had to reglue my wing joint on my Cruisemaster, but after looking at the Viking I like that much better. LYNN N9818B

I'm facing the same ordeal you are. My 1419 is in pieces right now. I've decided to go with Polytone on the fabric and Aerothane on the sheetmetal. I tried using a flattener additive with the Aerothane in order match the lower gloss of the Polytone. Time will tell if this will work. As far as painting the fabric, I think I will have the entire plane assembled first. This even includes the tail feathers. The 1419 had "S" tapes between the rudder, elevators and their respective stabilizers. It seems like a harder job to apply tapes after the color is on the fabric. If a metal airplane can be painted afer its assembled, why can't a fabric covered airplane be as well?

Painting the colorcoat AFTER assembly as well, but using Aerothane all over. The idea of lying on my back with all the hoses from my air mask and the HVLP tangling up everywhere just doesn't appeal though. :?

The Cruisair Sr. has "S" tapes on the empennage as well.

If you get a chance, send a picture of your painted Cruisemaster once it's done- I'd love to see it.

Will you be at PA. this year (east coast fly-in)?
