Oil Pump Upgrade

Anybody ever change their 0-470K engine to the new style adjustable oil pressure pump? I priced the screw adjustment on Preferred and was shocked to see the nut (627652) WAS A WHOPPING $273.06! this is BS so has anybody done this upgrade at a resonable price? Lynn N9818B the crate.

Lynn, Any good salvage yard will sell you the nut with the screw in the center at a reasonable price. One problem you will run into is that the new style pumps--at least the ones I found use a flat relief valve whereas your valve has a tapered seat and is smaller in diameter. The adjustable assy. really doesn't fit your valve . The valve you have is guided in the rear nut with the spring in the center and the shims in between. I am not going to recommend how you fix the problem but think "good machine shop and a little creativity". Don't know what your IA will have to say about it though. I bought an adjustable unit with the flat valve from a local salvage yard a couple of years ago for $35 so the price should be in that ball park. The alternative to this is to replace the pump with a new style pump but that is fairly expensive. Good luck, Ron

As the owner, you have the right to manufacture replacement parts :!:

There's an article at

by Cy Galley that's VERY informative. Scroll down towards the bottom of the webpage to read.

Makes me ask: "Why can't Kent Tarver make me some blades for my Aeromatic hub under my supervision?"

Ron and double D. Thanks so much for the info on the oil pump. There are 3 syles of oil pump pressure on the OPEC-470. I'm going to go with whatever Continental says. They have a factory and and a field # to call listed on their web site TCMLINK. I have been doing my homework on this engine and being a LYC man for years this is new turf for me. As Russ Williams engine overhaul on his WEB site states it is really a tight fit on the airframe ( and I thought Mooneys were tight) silly me! LYNN N9818B the crate

Continental says a new pump assembly is 3000 bucks! Continental says to replace the spring and remove the plunger put some valve grinding compound on it and reseat it in its boss using a rubber hose ( like seating cylinder valves). then if you want more pressure start adding washers behind spring to increase the pressure. Just like Lycoming only it is so hard to get access to the pump! LYNN N9818B the crate :D

Good luck doing that. Didn't work for me. If it doesn't work, give me the part number you want and I will check with my local salvage guy and see what he has. He has a building full of salvaged engine parts off of wrecked airplanes and a lot of the time some of that stuff is like new. I help him when he is in a bind, and I have the run of the place, and most of the stuff is reasonable. Let me know if I can help. $3000? Makes even the politicians look like Mother Teresa. Regards, Ron

Ron, I am looking for a 632563 oil pump A32 for 0-470K. The K engine lists a 632563A25 but I don't know if this is the adjustable or the non like what I have on my crate. LYNN

Will check it out on thursday or friday. I will let you know if he has one and what it looks like and what the charge might be. Have to go to the western slope and pick up an airplane that has been sitting for a while so if I have a problem, it might take an extra day but I will be looking when I get back. Ron

Lynn, Why don't you send me your e-mail or phone number and I will call or mail you. I have found the right housing and I think I have a way you can go if you want to. My e-mail is ronhasz@hotmail.com Ron
