Metal Master

I have a good friend who bought a Spartan Executive that was ground looped two years ago on it's way to OSH. It was sent to the WACO factory in Battle CreeK MI for repair. They have not been what you would expect to put it mildly. He is looking for a shop or individual that could make a new cowling. I remember there was a firm that was always doing its thing at the OSH flyin and Cy would probably know who they are. At any rate I said I would put this request out on our Forum for assistance. So where and who is the metal master? Lynn the crate snowed in BIG TIME

Ron Englund does incredible work. He was a MAJOR player in the Hughes H1 racer that was built in Cottage Grove OR, and also did work on Russell Williams Ryan. See:

Roger James and company of D&D Classics in Covington, Ohio (North, Northwest of Dayton, Ohio) has made some beautiful cowlings, fairings, wheel pants etc for Waco cabins, Ryan STA, and many different fairings for Stewart S51's

Thanks boys! This is a great reason of the great value of membership in the BC club. A wealth of help and knowledge at my fingertips. Lynn the crate :)

The full story on Ron making a cowling for my Ryan is here: http://www.russellw.com/planes/ryan/cowling.htm

Unfortunately for the restoration community, Ron stopped doing restoration work for other people a few years ago. Worth calling him but I wouldn't expect much.

Also if money is no object, try calling Kent White, "The Tin Man", to see if he might be interested in the Spartan project. NorCal gold country.

Dan, now Waco says they will do it. I don't like those guys as I feel they are more BS than product. My opinion only! Lynn :!:
