looking at a 14-19

I'm off to have a look at a 14-19 (converted to a "2") at the end of
the week. Currnetly flying a Citabria, I'm new to the Cruisemaster,
and would be grateful to have any tips on type characteristics that
should get special attention.

Thanks,

Ham

Ham, if you have a -2 check and make sure the OPEC 470 Continental is not an oil hog. These engines are known to be excessive oil users like a qt. an hour usually blowby. Check for a Hartzell AD city prop, McCaully is what you want. Check to see how many times this thing has been wrecked. in my case 4 times! these are super airplanes but require lots of tlc and maintenance that you must do yourself as you can't afford to pay a person to take care of it. The biggest thing I can tell you is that if this thing spent any time outside walk away from it! LYNN N9818B the crate :!:

Dido being outside. Before you buy have someone that knows wood real well to look at it. As Lynn say's unless you have unlimited resources This type of plane you will need to find an I.A. that is willing to work with you. Do an inspection of every hole in the plane. There are very few people that really know this type. If you can find someone in your area that has owned one for awhile, you need to try and talk them into going with you. DO NOT USE THE LOCAL I.A. that has worked on the plane. There are a couple of shops that are experts with these planes, but they are not cheap. Neither is a bad plane. Once you have flown a Bellanca of any type it is hard to go back to anything else. I had a 17-30 and still have a 14-13-2 and I regret every day that I sold the Viking, But am HAPPY I still have the 14-13-2. happy trails Randy

I bought a 14-19 5 years ago, and love the plane, but there are many, many things i would have done differently when purchasing this plane. Call me if you wish to discuss.. 503-266-4248.

Gentlemen:

Thanks for your insights into the 14-19. I did make the trip, saw and flew the airplane, and was intrigued. I've decided not to make an offer, partly because the 14-19 is not exactly what I'm looking for and partly because there are problems with the Citabria which need attention first (it's a partnership).
