Flying Wires

A note of interest. I lost a support for my empenage flying wires. It was a 7/16 wood dowel about 8 and1/2 in long. I made a new one out of 7/16 in Delrin rod. It worked so well I replaced the other 3 supports with Delrin. This is much stronger and much more resistant to moisture. Got 50 hours on this and no problems, so I'm passing this along to the Bellanca Boys. 14-19-2 LYNN N9818B the crate

hey lynn!

just curious how you attached the javelins. did you rest them on "top" of the wires and lash them down or slot the ends and nestle them between the wires? N522A came to me with slotted javelins which are lashed to the flying wires with lacing cord.

they still seem to "migrate" around :shock: i.e. they don't always stay aligned with the center line of the airplane. never found one which looked like it might come off, but it's interesting to see where they end up after a few hours.

Vic, mine were slotted and lashed with lacing cord. I used the Delrin slotted and laced them. I also used a 1/32 cotter pin on each guide wire so there is no way they would ever come off. They have been on for 50 hours and have not moved from the original location. I'm real pleased with this set up. 8) LYNN N9818B
