anyone know how the flap position indicator works on the 14-19-2. The indicator is now stuck in the down position.

Thanks for any help,

Tim

GeeWhiz...I feel left out. My -2 doesn't have an indicator.
I generally put what I feel is half down on base leg and full flaps on final.
What's really important is that you don't reach for the handle until you are clear of the runway.
THE CORRECT HANDLE.

Well Dan,

That didn't help me fix it. I know that I don't really need it. Just hate to have something not working right.

Do you know if you had one and it was removed or was it built that way? Too cold to work on it right now. Might just remove it.

Thanks for the post. I will probably have more. Still fairly new to this aircraft.

Hi Tim... I think the flap position indicator is driven by a small cable. If the indicator is stuck in the down position it might be as simple a spraying some lubricant on the indicator movement or the cable itself. To do the job properly you will need to get under the seat and in behind the panel to do this. Once the indicator starts sticking it will usually hang in the "flaps down" position because there is more direct force pulling it in this direction than there is as the flaps retract. This advice is all from my memory, but sometime this week I will poke my head into my -2 and confirm. --Rob

It is driven by a cable. I'm betting it is the needle that has hung up. This requires dis-assembly and is not hard but quite awkward to work on. Been there when I was a younger man. Lynn the crate :D

I finally got to look at my flap position indicator. It is cable driven. The cable buckled at the hydraulic actuator. I removed it and straightened it out. Moved it with some pliers and lubed it. It works now. Might need to replace the push pull cable sometime later. seems way too tight. For later reference it seems to move 3 inches from up to down. Distance from actuator to indicator in panel about 5 feet.

Thanks for all the help.
