door stay

I noticed in the video of Lynn Ford's plane (very nice, by the way) that he had some way of holding the door open and then smacked near the bottom rail with his hand when he wanted to close it. I don't see any place on my 14-19 where there has been any hardware there before. Is this somethin that has been added later or isthis something that mine is missing? I had been thinking about some sort of air cylinder to help assist it in staying open, but whatever he has seems to work well. Thanks.

Mike, the crate has a spring latch that is similar to the style you see on an old Bonanza. When I got the crate years ago the spring was busted and missing. A trip to the hardware store solved it. When you open the door to full ext, the latch spring pops into a detent and holds the door open. To close push down on the latch which compresses the spring and pulls it out of the detent. A Cherokee latch ext. would also work for your -19. Lynn the crate :D

Thanks Lynn. I had been trying to figure out a way to hold the door open since I bought it. I will have to check that out. When I watched your video, I saw how yours worked and kept playing it over and over trying to see something. I guess I was trying to solve a problem that has already been solved. Thanks again.
