Chasing Tail

Does anybody know if the 19 and -2 tailwheel assemblies are the same? I need to source a steering collar ( this is th aluminum assembly with the lockout button). If I can source an assembly I can have parts made. Russell did a bit on this http://www.russellw.com/planes/cruisemaster/maint tailwheel.htm

Hi Lynn -did you check with the factory. They replaced the part that the spring and button recess into on my -2 about 5 years ago when I found excessive play.

Glenn: Yes, I talked to Carroll at the factory no luck, He said call Kevin at Weber still no luck. E-mailed Wentworth still waiting for response. Put add in Fly Mart so the search is on. I remember the late Vic Steelhammer had a Stinson tailwheel on his plane but it changed the geometry of the gear. Somewhere out here is a wheel I can use to get machined parts. I don't know why Bellanca doesn't do this. Silly me it's about money! I got my wheel fixed again BUT it will break again just like Murphy promised. Lynn

Lynn , If there is a Cruisair in the area, check to see if the parts are the same. I know the forks are wider on the 14-19 but I think the steering parts are the same on both. ___Good Luck___Grant.

Grant: I'm the only Bellanca for miles around. I wish there were more but no. I was into western Ohio last week and a guy at the airport told me of a triple tail that has been in storage for 30 years near by. He didn't know what model just 3 tails. Sad to say but that is the state of our diminishing Bellanca fleet. I never heard back from Wentworth on my tailwheel request. Cy was to e-mail me with his input. I figured if I could get one that I would have a couple steering collars machined and use one sell the rest. Worst case this winter UGG! I take mine apart and have the collar duplicated. When I first got the crate somebody had removed the tailwheel springs and there was a direct connection to the wheel. During my recover project I installed new tailwheel springs per Bellanca drawing from factory. This made the tailwheel more forgiving and less sensitive to rudder input. When the fool thing doesn't latch the wheel is now in free castor and you can sure dance on those rudder pedals. So I'm on a mission to fix my crate with a new part. Lynn the crate

Lynn, I will take a look and see if I have 14-13 parts for the tailwheel, and if I do I can send them to you for comparison. I think(but Im not sure) they are the same. Since there were 3 times as many Cruisairs built , as Cruismasters, there should be many more parts available for the ones that are interchangable. I will let you know in a day or two.____Grant.

We got to Fostoria(FZI) Ohio and hit the weather. Cy has come through for me with drawings and parts. He has steering collars in steel and aluminum. Lynn :o
