Cessna 150 farings for a Cruisair?

I've heard you can buy a pair of old Cessna 150 wheel farings, cut them in half (top and bottom), make a cutout for the gear axle in the bottom half of the faring, add a lip around the top, and install them to create smooth airflow over your wheelwells. Anytruth to this? Any pictures?

Hey DD!

The first part is true - folks have done as you noted, and there may be a photo or two on Russell Williams' site.

Whether this will do anything to improve airflow is controversial (well...as controversial as anything gets among our small, but cunning group of aviators). If you like the look of the farings, give it a try, IMO.

I'd like to copy the faring setup on a Seversky P-35A. I think it would be fairly straightforward, but I guess one has to consider the weight penalty too. :?

Does anyone know if there has ever been any paper work issued on these wheel farings? Are there any 337's or have people been doing field approvals?
