Another avionics shop story

Tomorrow I will be flying young eagles in my cruisemaster for the first time. Even though I have a 6 place audio panel, the previous owner never wired for rear passenger headsets. The cost of a portable headset splitter was around 100 bucks. I checked with my on field avionics shop and they quoted me 4-5 hours of labor and 75 dollars in parts. I thought this was slightly high, but needed it done.
After they ordered the wrong parts, I got my plane and my bill.
Grand total for the installation of two headset jacks? $1058.75.
Parts cost were 75 dollars and the rest was labor. Needless to say I was surprised. If I had known it would be 500 bucks per headset jack, I would have just bought and used a portable unit.
Needless to say I won't be using them again.
Oh, and I delivered it with the lower access panel and rear seat removed.
Airplanes.
 
To put it in another perspective, the 6 place audio panel I have in the master (PMA 6000) retails for less than a grand new.
I just wish I would have been told before the cost to install two headset jacks doubled.
 
I feel for ya.

I had a number of issues after they installed my stack that I didn't report because it hurts to think about them :)
HSI's course knob wasn't working (it worked when I gave it to them).. the Vertical speed said I was climbing at 400 fpm and the airspeed said I was going 40mph while it was sitting in the hanger.
I called around about the HSI - everyone told me you had to send it to Century to be checked, and that it ALWAYS ends up being a $2000 ticket... ugh..
I took it back to the shop.. Turns out they stock the parts and do repairs on them right there.. they fixed it no charge, even though they probably didn't cause it. ( I investigated the failure and now think it was a coincidence). They overhauled the Airspeed for no charge too. It has the original Pioneer gauge in it and they have parts for it.. although they are getting scarce..

So now it's back to the hanger to reinstall everything and hopefully this will end this saga..
