Hello. I am an AME in Canada. I currently own a cruise master 14-19 (C-FEDW) and maintain another 14-19, and a viking. I'm in need of documents, advise, contacts, or best would be all of the above, for wood repairs on these wood wing Bellancas. The 14-19 I maintain has some dry rot in the Left aileron spar which needs addressing. Alternatively I would be interested in purchasing a serviceable aileron if any are available. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hi Doug, we are happy to hear from you! Please let us know the serial numbers of the Cruisemaster and Viking that you own and maintain.

Regarding your questions... first of all the Bellanca-Champion Club sells various sets of documentation, including services letters, past copies of newsletters (which contain many technical articles relating to wing repair), and other resource materials. I would encourage you to maintain a library of this information. The order form can be found here: https://bellanca-championclub.com/PubOrderHW.html

Next, you are probably familiar with the documentation published by the US FAA: 43.13-1B which addresses methods, techniques and best practices for airframe maintenance and repair. There are many sections in this publication that talks about structural repairs to wood. Other books have been written about this as well.

As for resources that have specific expertise in Bellanca maintenance we have identified a few top rated shops:
  • Alexandria Aircraft, Alexandria, MN - this is the company that holds the type certificate for the 14-19 series and is referred to as "the factory".
  • MARS aircraft repair, Santa Paula, California - Dan Torrey is highly regarded as a Bellanca repair shop.
  • Pasquale Aviation, Pottstown, Pennsylvania - Dave Pasquale is also highly experienced with Bellanca and has published a series of youtube videos.
The above shops are all great resources - just please remember to compensate them for their time if you consult with them.

Finally, I do know the whereabouts of a set of freshly covered ailerons if that is the direction you want to go in. Drop me an email to rswanland@usa.net and I can provide you with more information -- Rob

Hi Rob. your response is greatly appreciated. i have used AC43.13 for past minor repairs but this time its beyond my comfort level which is why Im inquiring about replacement vs major repair. Im leaning more towards replacement at this point. Perhaps this winter I can find the time to complete the repair as I do want to learn.

thanks for the contacts I will surely use their services at some point in the near future.

My personal Cruisemaster is SN 2012, the customers is SN 2008, and the Viking is SN 73-30526.
