3 in 1 (Oil Temp., Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure) Gauge Repair

The oil temperature portion of my WW2 vintage 3 in 1 gauge has begun to indicate 10 to 20 degrees higher than the actual temperature. Is there a company that rebuilds these instruments or if not is there a more modern replacement for these things.

Mon, I had Kansas Instrument redo my gauge 4 yrs ago and it was a first class job. 316-789-9721 Lynn N9818B the crate :roll:
 
Thats good to know, :D mine did the same thing, oil temp let go. It indicate 20 degrees...the needle is in the oil pressure gauge...I will call them

this may be worthless info but as I recall from 25 years ago (when I had a 14-13) they had the right instrument at sporty's (war surplus) I checked and all sporty now sells is pretty useless, but aircraft spruce had these overhauled instruments http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/threeOneGauge.php this may not be the right one. forgive my weak memory
 
Thanks all for the input! After I posted the topic a friend sent me to a company called Keystone Instruments in Lock Haven, PA , they informed me that they had what it took to make the instrument as new again, worst case scenario, $550.00. By the way, how did you know that all my friends call me Mon?
 
Plus side of Keystone - they do MAGNIFICENT work.

Minus side of Keystone - you may have to leave your instrument to your decendents before it arrives.

Plus side - he work will be so good they will cherish it :)

Seriiously, this is a renown shop, especially for Cub restorers. Cubs are HOT properties and, I'd imagine, are first priority. The aviation business is such that most shops NEVER refuse work, even when they're backed up to 2009.

If this is a AOG situation let them know. If this is a ongoing restoration, do not let them know. I suggest, in the former case, you may want to ge with a temporary solution for your oil temp gauge until Keystone delivers.

All the crap I said aside, yours is the best choice. Heck, you can't go to a swap meet, or walk around the back of an old hangar without stumbling over one of these gauges. Getting one that's throroughly and completely overhauled is the only way to go IMO.

After looking at Peter's link it's tough to argue against the one from Spruce. Yep, it's pricely, but it's available. Of course I'd get an estimate from McCruisair's guy first :wink:

A friend of mine gave me a gauge from a Navion that he is rebuilding, I tested the oil temperature gauge by putting the probe in boiling water.....the gauge indicated 40 degrees C. The moral of the story: It is definitely better to check out this older unproven equipment uninstalled than it is to go through the trouble of putting it in and find out the hard way.
 
The 3 in 1 gage at Aircraft Spruce is electric. Is that what you are looking for or the capillary type?

Mine is the capilary type. I have already shipped it up to Keystone Instruments for repair, they tell me that they can repair the gauge and ship it back to me within a few days....we shall see.
 
Please keep us posted. Naturally the tales you tend to hear are the unfortunate ones. It would be nice to hear some good ones as well :)
